Pollok House


Pollok House
Pollok House is the inherited home of the Maxwell family, placed in Pollok Country Park, Glasgow, Scotland.
The house - constructed in 1752 and deliberate by William Adam - was gifted to the City of Glasgow in 1966 by Dame Anne Maxwell Macdonald, whose family had owned the lands for just about 700 years. It is now supervised by the National Trust for Scotland and is open to the public.

Displayed within the Pollok House is a huge, private group of Spanish paintings, with works by El Greco, Francisco Goya and Bartolomé Esteban Murillo. There are as well paintings by William Blake, with glass, silverware, porcelain and historic furniture. The house moreover features servants' quarters downstairs (available free of charge), which embrace two shops and a restaurant.

The house also has a broad garden, boasting a compilation of over 1,000 species of rhododendrons.
